TERRA INCOGNITA is tangible proof - counterintuitively manifested on an online platform - that humanity is immutable despite shifting topographies. From Queens to quarantined corners of the world, TERRA INCOGNITA charts and unfurls from each of us out to us all.
TERRA INCOGNITA is a testimony of human connection and awareness charted into artwork, illuminated by gesso and color and clay. Each piece is a literal map of marks created by a map of hands and a map of cognizance.
This exhibition is a collection of allied voices woven together from threads thinned by confinement amidst whirring soundbites like vaccines, no immunity, shut down, death toll and pandemic. And as the internet publishes sprawling lines that jump across continents from dot to dot, one map shimmers most - for the tendrils which track sickness and shortages are the same threads that spread a reminder of the connectedness of our own humanity. This seemingly-obvious but often-overlooked spiderweb of uncertainty now thrums with the renewed awareness of each other.
