The Figure in Question

These works were created in 2024 during a return to figurative painting after a period spent working primarily in urban landscapes. Working from a single photo session, Myaing initially approached the figure through questions of narrative. Who is this person? Where is she going, and what might connect one image to the next? Rather than establishing a fixed sequence, the paintings leave these questions unresolved and the narrative open to the viewer.

In the smaller square and circular works, the questions became compositional: What happens when the figure is tightly cropped? Which poses work within the constraints of the frame? Together, the works consider the figure both as a character from whom a story might emerge and as a means of constructing an image.
